It's so funny, I've done so many projects where I've been interrogated. I guest starred on almost every hour drama, and I'm always the guy they think is the bad guy but then they find out is not.
If you put negative things out about anyone every day, they're gonna start believing it, sorta like propaganda if you think about it.
I've done both theatre and film and the fact is if you start believing, if you start reading things and they're good reviews - you believe that and you're lost, and then you read bad reviews and you think that's true and you read that and you're lost.
The worst thing that can happen for a writer is for a writer to start believing their own press. I think the industry, and the comics industry in particular, is littered with the bodies of writers who believed their own press. And you can see the moment they did, and then the work nosedives.
It's really rare for people to have a successful start-up in this industry without a breakthrough product. I'll take it a step further. It has to be a radical product. It has to be something where, when people look at it, at first they say, 'I don't get it, I don't understand it. I think it's too weird, I think it's too unusual.'
I used to think that my songs were the best things that I would leave behind me. And I definitely think my kids are now. For starters, they're writing better songs than I was at their age.
I think people get hung up on starters and 11s, and that number kind of rings through a lot of media's heads.
I'd ask myself, 'What do I think is really unjust?' That should be a starting point for how you engage with the world.
However now we can create a sound that can truly startle someone and in terms of sound effects I think the environment that we are in now has improved dramatically.
I've done more than 100 films, which is a sizeable chunk of life in cinema, so if something can startle me, then I think we can say we're looking at something fairly new.
I get startled really easily, so I hate horror films. I have to close my eyes when I think something is going to make me jump, because I just scream.
So many other countries have had female leaders, in fact the U.S. ranks 61st in female representation in government and I think it is startling and sign of a change that needs to be made.
I think my approach to a creative career was very entrepreneurial. Even though I'm a writer, I've always viewed my work much in the same way as a startup or marketer might view their work.
I think my gift lies in being a startup entrepreneur and creating environments and experiences.
I think the rise of A.I. is bigger than the rise of mobile. Large companies are sometimes as worried about startups as startups are about large companies. Ultimately, it will be about who delivers the best service or product.
I think one of the strengths of Wisconsin's economy is it's diversity - and in making sure that we're doing everything we can to have a state government that's responsive to that and being here and encouraging people to expand their businesses here.
I'm big on this 'no budget, no pay.' I think that's important. Let's get right at the heart of the issue. Even when I was in the state legislature, the most important function we had was to pass the bloody budget.
I don't think I'm making any great statements, and I certainly don't think I'm making art.
While I still do a lot of horror, it doesn't feel to me like I'm repeating myself. I like to stay interested. I'm kind of turning into one of those elder statesmen, like a Vincent Price or a Donald Pleasence. I like to think of myself alongside those guys.
I think being negative is being positive. You can't improve without stating the problem.
