It’s only “security theater” when the procedures are designed to protect a group of individuals (1) from an imagery threat (e.g., demonic possession, electromagnetic mind reading ray guns, or psychic/psionics attacks) or (2) from a threat that is statistically improbable (a.k.a., ‘statistically insignificant;’ e.g., being killed by a cow, a foreign terrorist on U.S. soil, and/or a meteorite). Exorcisms, most of what the TSA does,1 and tin foil hats are security theater. Wearing a seat belt, getting vaccinated, and/or wearing a N952 mask properly are not, we repeat, not security theater.
